Hey there, San Francisco.

On Monday, Mayor London Breed appointed Matt Dorsey to replace Matt Haney as District 6 supervisor.
Most recently, Dorsey worked as the director of comms for the SFPD.
As the Chronicle’s J.D. Morris writes, Breed considered Dorsey “the best pick to tackle street conditions and the drug crisis” in District 6, which includes SoMa.
Interestingly, Dorsey has struggled with addiction himself, telling the Chronicle he’s a “three time drug rehab graduate” who has abused crystal meth, GHB, MDMA, Xanax, and alcohol.
“For those of us in recovery, seeing our city struggle with a public health calamity that is twice as deadly as COVID-19 and represents something we haven’t seen since the AIDS crisis in San Francisco — it’s hard to watch,” Dorsey, who’s living with HIV, told the Chronicle.
“He represents what hope is,” Breed said of her appointee on Monday.
Still, not everyone was enthusiastic about the decision, including Haney, who had openly thrown his support behind his former chief of staff, Honey Mahogany, for the position.
“I guess we aren't hanging up our campaign sneakers just yet,” Haney tweeted on Monday, referring to the upcoming November election when the District 6 supervisor seat will be on the ballot.
As Mission Local’s Joe Eskenazie wrote: “A mayor can put a supervisor into office. But it’s constituents who keep them there.”
And with that… onto the news…
