Mayor to skip Pride parade
Plus: š¦ 'Most certainly not over'
Hey there, San Francisco.Ā
The World Health Organization said Sunday that the pandemic is āmost certainly not over.ā And in my house, at least, that rings true.Ā
This morning I took an at-home Covid test that showed the faintest of faint second lines. My second test was negative.Ā
Still, it was enough for us to keep our son home from his nanny-share to be safe. Which means, of course, working from home with a baby (hence the late newsletter send).Ā
Iām sure many of you have gone through this. So, if you have any tips, tricks, or hopeful stories about getting through Covid with kids, Iād love to hear them. (Just hit reply to this email and Iāll share some this week.)Ā
As for me, itās still unclear if I actually have Covid.Ā
To try and know for sure, I went to one of our city sanctioned testing sites this afternoon in Western Addition, which was great. No appointment, no lines, and I should have results in 24 hours (which, workers said, would be more accurate than my at-home tests). Tests through the city are also free.Ā
Hereās a list of drop-in testing sites.Ā
And while weāre talking about all this, a reminder that late last week the CDC recommended kids ages 5-11 years old get their booster. On Monday, San Franciscoās health department echoed the recommendation, saying that families should first contact their primary health care providers about the shot.Ā
The department also said families could get the booster at a local pharmacy or an SFDPH-affiliated site.Ā
With that⦠onto the newsā¦Ā
Quick bits: News to know
š³ļøāš SFPD officers will not march in the upcoming Pride parade after organizers asked them not to wear their official, police uniforms.Ā
āLet us be clear,ā the San Francisco Police Officerās Pride Alliance wrote in a statement on Monday. āThis committee would not order the leather community to wear polyester at the parade. This committee would not order the drag community to wear flannel. But they have told us, peace officers, that if we wear our uniforms, we may not attend.āĀ
In response to the ban, Mayor London Breed said in a statement provided to the Chronicle on Monday that sheās made a āvery hard decisionā not to participate in the June 26 parade āin order to support those members of the LGBTQ community who serve in uniform.āĀ
On-duty officers will still patrol the event, in uniform, the Chronicle noted. (Chronicle)Ā
š Two pedestrians were killed on Sunday when a taxi (involved in a collision with another car) crashed into them on a downtown sidewalk near the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. The taxi driver and another pedestrian were injured and taken to the hospital.Ā
The examinerās office identified the victims as two women (31 and 72 years old) from Vero Beach, Florida.Ā
Separately, on Sunday, an 82-year-old pedestrian died after being hit near Fulton and 37th Avenue (by the Golden Gate Park Senior Center). āIt is heartbreaking and unacceptable,ā Supervisor Connie Chan said on Twitter. (KTVU / SFGATE)Ā
šæ San Francisco archbishop Salvatore Cordileone has notified House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (a Catholic) that she will no longer be able to receive communion in the city due to her support of abortion rights.Ā
At a press conference last year, Pelosi said: āI believe that God has given us a free will to honor our responsibilities.āĀ (Chronicle)
š” One of the Painted Ladies (the brownish-pink one) is for sale for $3.55 million, the same price Twitter software engineer Leah Culver paid for it in January 2020.
āļø Late last week, the Chronicle published its list for the best coffee in the Bay Area.Ā
San Francisco shops that made the cut include Breadbelly, Craftsman and Wolves, Grand Coffee, and Haus Coffee.Ā
SF Minute reader Dan tells me, in his opinion, the biggest snub from the list was The Coffee Movement. FWIW, Iām still a Sightglass loyalist.Ā (Chronicle)

The Bold Italic reports that Western Additionās Rosa Park Elementary has⦠a new chicken coop!Ā
Apparently, according to reporter Matt Charnock, it was āa year-long community effort to design, fund, and build the new coop.ā And now, students can āenjoy chickens as part of the schoolās outdoor education program.āĀ
There are six in total: Omellete, Oreo, PyoPyo, Sunny, Totoro, and Pickahcu II.Ā
Thatās all for today! Thanks for reading and apologies again for the late send. Itās been an interesting day! Iāll see you tomorrow. - Nick B. š·
