Hey there, San Francisco.
What did you think of the fog this morning?
The SFist reported that it caused some problems for commuters.
AND apparently, it was enough to bring Karl the Fog back on Twitter after a two-year hiatus!
“Oh, hey down there. I know it's been awhile, so hope you still recognize me,” Karl said. “Moved in with my parents in Point Reyes at the start of the pandemic. The free rent was great, but nothing beats hanging 6ft away from you.”
It’s unclear if the anonymous account (that gave our fog its name) will remain active, though they did follow up with a fog-themed Wordle later in the morning.
I liked this response to Karl’s return from Chronicle reporter, JK Dineen:
Dear Karl,
San Francisco wasn’t the same without you.
Yours Tule,
JK
And with that…onto the news…
Top story: One thing you should know
SFPD officers shot and killed a man inside SFO’s International Terminal on Thursday morning who was allegedly carrying two handguns and made advancements towards officers even after de-escalation attempts.
The suspect’s name has not been released, but BART police described him over radio as a man in his 20’s, the Chronicle said.
Quick bits: Bite-sized news stories from across the city

👀 The San Francisco Democratic Party has filed a complaint alleging the group behind District Attorney Chesa Boudin’s recall effort did not properly disclose that the person featured on its recent mailer is a paid spokesperson. That person, Andrea Shorter, makes $16,000 per month in her role. (Chronicle)

Weekend Guide: Some things to consider for your weekend ahead
🖼 Go see art. “San Francisco’s unofficial art week is back,” Datebook’s Tony Bravo reports. Central to the celebration is the Fog Design + Art fair, which showcases work from top galleries at the Fort Mason Center. Tickets for the event, which runs Thursday-Sunday, cost $30 and also get you access to “satellite showings across town,” the SFist says.
Of those satellite showings, the “City Canvas: A Paint the Void Retrospective” at Pier 70 and the climate change-focused “Lands End” show at the Cliff House seem especially interesting to me.
Watch sports. A friendly reminder that the San Franisco 49ers square off against the Green Bay Packers this Saturday at 5:15 pm. The winner moves on to the NFC Championship game (aka the semi-finals).
Also, tonight, the University of San Francisco men’s basketball team takes on the nation’s top ranked team Gonzaga at 8 pm. Go Dons!
And finally…Eat pastries. This might have already been in your plans, but just wanted to let you know that on Thursday, Eater updated its list of top 25 bakeries in the city. High on my list of places I’ve never tried include Kantine, Kahnfections, and Cinderella.
Alright! That’s all for today. As a reminder, I’ll be out tomorrow (Friday), but will be back next week. Have a wonderful weekend and I’ll forward to being back on Monday. Talk soon! - Nick B.
