Hey there, San Francisco.

The National Weather Service predicts there’s more than a 90% chance that temperatures will surpass 80 degrees on Thursday / Getty Images

Happy Monday. And get ready to hang up those down jackets because warm weather is on its way.

Temperatures are expected to rise over the next few days, peaking on Thursday when we’ll likely see temps above 80 degrees.

And if you’ve lived in San Francisco long enough, you know 80 degrees here (for whatever reason) feels like 100. Maybe we’re just not used to it? Or, probably because most of us don’t have AC.

Anyways, in typical San Francisco fashion, temperatures are expected to start cooling again by Friday. And by Sunday, we’ll be back to our 60 degree, windy weather.

So, hang up those jackets for now, but please, don’t pack them away.

And with that… onto the news…

Quick bits: News to know

😞 Four men were shot on Sunday afternoon at the Alice Chalmers Playground in Crocker Amazon, leaving two of the men dead. The police are still looking for the gunman, who they say sped away by car. (Chronicle)

🧑‍🏫 Starting Monday, elementary school students across SFUSD are no longer required to wear masks in the classroom, though the district says they are still “strongly recommended.”

  • SFUSD dropped its mask mandate for middle and high school students last month. (CBS Bay Area)

🏀 With a 111-107 win over the Utah Jazz on Saturday, the Warriors clinched a playoff bid for the first time since the 2018-19 season.

🍜 Tracy Goh, who for years hosted pop-up dinners in her living room, will soon have a proper space to show off her Malaysian cooking when she opens her first brick-in-mortar restaurant this summer in Noe Valley.

  • It’ll be called Damansara, after Goh’s hometown in Malaysia, and offer small plates and laksa (noodle soup).

  • As someone who dined at the living room pop-up, I can’t wait for Damansara to open! Huge congratulations, Tracy!! (Chronicle)

💨 Delivery company goPuff has abandoned plans to open a physical retail store in the former Pier 1 Imports space on Geary Blvd.

  • GoPuff told the San Francisco Business Times that it determined the nearby BevMo! (which it owns) was enough to meet customer demand in the area, but that opening brick-and-mortar stores was still part of its strategy. (SF Business Times)

On Monday, I caught up with Panhandle resident Stephen Riffle who captured the incredible photo. He said it was taken on Saturday morning around 7 am in Golden Gate Park, just off JFK Drive.

Riffle said the photo is a good reminder to all SF residents that “pupping season,” when coyotes give birth to their pups and start raising them, recently began here in the city.

During this time, which can last until fall, coyotes can be especially protective of their young and their den sites.

So keep your dogs on leash, especially in areas where there’s signs about recently coyote activity, SF Animal Care & Control spokesperson Deb Campbell told me on Monday.

Here are some more tips as well on how to stay safe around coyotes.

That’s all for today! Thanks so much for reading y’all and see you here tomorrow. - Nick B.
