Hey there, San Francisco.
Ask, and you shall receive!
The last time we were here, on Thursday, I dragged on about how there weren't many vegan options here in San Francisco.
Then, the following day, the SF Business Times reported that the restaurant group behind Wildseed is going to open a fast-casual spinoff in Hayes Valley equipped with vegan sandwiches, salads, and bowls. Huzzah!!
The name is still TBD, but it’ll be located where The Grove used to be (on Hayes and Franklin), and it should open within the next three months.
"What I've learned is how delicious plant-based food can be, how good it makes you feel," the restaurateur behind the project, Adriano Paganini, told the Business Times. "You want to have it more often — maybe two, three, four times a week."
Regardless of your vegan-ness, the restaurant should be a win for the area. As one reader commented on our story last week, “it's not just vegan [food]” that the city lacks, but healthy options overall.
And with that… onto the news…
Top story: 💦 Stern Grove lineup leaked
The lineup for this summer’s free, Stern Grove concert series wasn’t supposed to drop until May 3. But, it appears the cat is out of the bag.
On Friday, a Redditor spotted a very legitimate-looking Stern Grove ad on Muni, and the following day, the festival tweeted: “Floods and leaks aside, things are going swimmingly over here.”
Starting off with Tower of Power and Too Short on June 12, the 10-week, Sunday afternoon concerts also includes:
Toro y Moi on 6/19
Cold War Kids on 7/3
LeAnn Rimes and Amythsyt Kiah on 7/24
SF Symphony on 7/31
Taj Mahal and Monophonics on 8/7
“Dang that's actually a pretty freaking cool lineup,” another person said on Reddit.
Tickets are free, but can sell out fast. I’ll make sure to remind you when they’re set to become available, which the Chronicle says happens 12 days before each show.
Quick bits: News to know
🗺 Late last week, the redistricting task force approved a new map for the city’s supervisor boundaries.
The biggest change: Moving the Tenderloin from District 6 to District 5, which separates it from SoMa.
As 48hills’ Tim Redmond notes: “Unless someone sues or put a Charter Amendment on the ballot to change it, this will be the district map for the next ten years.” (Chronicle / 48hills)
🗳 After a decisive victory for Matt Haney in last week’s state assembly special election, his opponent, David Campos, said he won’t run for the position again in June.
The catch? Campos’ name will still appear on the ballot due to the close timing of all these elections. (Chronicle / SFist)
👀 The Chronicle’s editorial board came out against the recall of District Attorney Chesa Boudin this weekend and endorsed a “no” vote on Prop H.
“Recall is a last-ditch tool for emergencies, not buyer’s remorse,” the Chronicle wrote. (Chronicle)
💪 San Francisco resident Chris Sandberg has lost 85 pounds by working out every day since last January in an attempt to capture Taco Bell’s attention and convince the chain to bring back his beloved Grilled Stuft Nacho.
Sandberg posts daily updates on TikTok. (Press Democrat)

And finally… New uniforms
On Monday, the 49ers unveiled their new uniforms for the upcoming season, which include three stripes on their shoulder instead of two and a return of the “Saloon” wordmark (which apparently was on their jerseys for 32 years and 5 Super Bowl victories).
“Placed below the neckline on standard 49ers jerseys and on rear helmet bumpers, the wordmark recalls the team’s history and tradition for all to see,” the team said in a press release.
We’ll see if the changes lead to a 6th Super Bowl.
That’s all for today!
But, before you go, I forgot to let you know the answer to last week’s “Where am I?” photo challenge. Some people guessed Alta Plaza. Others thought it was Lafayette. But indeed, I was near Alamo Square Park. My home park and favorite in the city!
Congrats to our reader Graeme who was the first to guess it correctly, securing a $20 gift card to a cafe of his choice! I’ll have another one of these for you this week.
Also, to note, the board of supervisors will meet tomorrow morning at 9am to discuss the future of JFK Drive. A person close to the situation told me today that they think the board could come out of the meeting with a vote (and decision) on the matter, which has been hotly contested throughout the pandemic.
So, buckle up! (Pun intended) Tomorrow should be a wild ride!! (Sorry)
Have a great night, y’all. - Nick B.
