Hey there, San Francisco.
By now, you’ve likely heard of the documents leaked last night showing the Supreme Court’s intention to overturn Roe v. Wade.
Though not finalized, the decision would likely do away with federal protections and leave abortion laws up to each individual state.
Axios reports that without Roe v. Wade, abortions would immediately become illegal in 13 states, with more likely to follow.
In California, abortions would remain legal. Still, on Monday, Governor Gavin Newsom proposed amending the state constitution to “enshrine the right.”
“Women will remain protected here,” Newsom said in a joint statement.
In San Francisco, abortion advocates plan to protest outside the federal building (located at 450 Golden Gate Avenue) tonight at 5 pm.
“We cannot stand by while SCOTUS and those seeking to take us back assault women's rights,” Mayor Breed said on Tuesday. “In San Francisco, we will never stop fighting, we will never back down, and we will never let anyone take away our right to choose.”

On Tuesday morning, a 22-year-old free climbed the 1,070-foot Salesforce Tower – the second tallest building west of the Mississippi.
The man, who goes by the name “Pro-Life Spiderman” on Instagram, apparently completed the climb to bring attention to pro-life efforts. Police booked him for trespassing and resisting arrest, though he was later released, the SFPD told me.
As the Chronicle noted, it’s unclear whether the climb was inspired by yesterday’s news regarding Roe v. Wade.
In any case, the SF Fire Department was not impressed and asked residents on Twitter to “join us in condemning this action.”
