Hey there, San Francisco.

“Cheap” gas prices in SF

Thank god it’s Monday?

This weekend, my family and I packed up the crossover and headed south to the central coast. It was our first road trip since gas prices spiked and yeah, it’s outta control.

The costly experience got me thinking: What’s the cheapest gas in San Francisco?

Around the corner from our apartment, on the corner of Divis and Fell, there’s an Arco that always has long lines. But does this Arco have THE most affordable fuel in the city?

My favorite new app, GasBuddy, says no. But almost!

Here were the top 10 cheapest spots to fill up in San Francisco today, according to GasBuddy (all prices are for regular gas paid by credit card):

  1. Allstars: 2831 Cesar Chavez St. / $5.39

  2. Arco: 1175 Fell Street / $5.65

  3. Speedway Express: 3300 Cesar Chavez St. / $5.65

  4. Valero: 1400 19th Ave. / $5.65

  5. Arco: 1798 Mission St. / $5.69

  6. Gas & Shop: 599 South Van Ness Ave. / $5.69

  7. Fuel 24/7: 2601 Lombard St. / $5.69

  8. 76: 4850 Geary Blvd. / $5.75

  9. Speedway Express: 2000 19th Ave / $5.75

  10. Castro Gas & Food Mart: 376 Castro St. / $5.79

And with that…onto the news…

Quick bits: News to know

🏘 Applications for new housing developments have “slowed to a trickle” in San Francisco, the Chronicle’s J.K. Dineen writes.

  • So far, in the first four months of 2022, the planning department has received just three preliminary project applications accounting for 62 housing units, Dineen reports.

  • During the same period in 2015, there were 17 applications totaling 2,084 units. And for the first four months of last year, there were 7 applications with 891 proposed units.

  • “The bottom line is people are not starting new projects in the city,” real estate construction CEO Ross Edwards told Dineen. “The market that is really hot right now is San Jose — everyone is focusing down there.” (Chronicle)

And finally… New 49ers

The NFL draft happened last week, and if you didn’t hear any hype around the 49ers’ selections, it’s probably because they didn’t have any first round picks.

Still, The Ringer’s Danny Kelly said the Niners “put together my All-Intriguing Class of this draft,” and overall, he gave them a B- grade for their picks.

Here’s a full list of the nine, new 49ers.

Some standouts include:

  • Round 2: 61st-Overall - DL Drake Jackson, USC

  • Round 3: 93rd-Overall - RB Tyrion Davis-Price, LSU

  • Round 3: 105th-Overall - WR Danny Gray, SMU

  • Round 7: 262nd-Overall - QB Brock Purdy, Iowa State

That’s all for today! A heads up that tomorrow the sun should be shining and the wind should die down a bit. Plan for a midday stroll if possible!

Have a wonderful evening and see you tomorrow. - Nick B.
